£42,403 - £44,428

As an Executive Project Officer your role will be to provide hands-on project support to one of the team of five Strategic Directors within the Council, whose collective aim it is to achieve our overall vision. You will use your knowledge of how local authorities operate and develop an understanding of a particular Strategic Director’s portfolio of services in order to provide professional and proactive project support to them on a day to day basis. You will work as part of a dynamic team, alongside the Executive Support and Programme Manager, ensuring a coordinated approach to cross-cutting priorities. This is an exciting, hands-on role in a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to manage competing priorities and work in a flexible way.

Three of the Strategic Directors have a vacancy for an Executive Project Officer, they are:

Adults & Health
Adults and Health covers adult social care, our work with our NHS partners and a range of community services including libraries, registrars and customer services.  It is a diverse portfolio which is mainly externally focused and works with a wide range of partners and communities.  Our priorities include a focus on creating the conditions that enable people to live a good life and one that is as independent from health and social care services as possible.  We have a big capital programme over the next few years including the major refurbishment and new build projects in libraries and in adult social care.

Growth and Regeneration
The Growth & Regeneration Directorate offers a fantastic opportunity for you to make a positive difference to Kirklees. You’ll be at the heart of our plans to transform town centres, change the way people travel and ensure everyone has a home they’re proud of. You’ll work closely with David Shepherd, our Strategic Director, and his leadership team, to deliver results that transform peoples lives as well as the places they live and work in. If you’re interested in how a locally economy really works, and the people and businesses that make Kirklees buzz, and you feel you’ve got the skills, experience and attitude that matter, then maybe you are a perfect fit for our Executive Project Officer role.

Environment and Climate Change

The Environment and Climate Change directorate covers a number of key services for the Council, including Waste, Highways, Parks and Streetscene, Cultural Services and Public Protection.  It’s an exciting and ambitious time for the directorate, which is leading the Council towards our net zero carbon target, will be implementing Kirklees’ waste strategy over the coming years and supporting the regeneration of our town and village centres through the delivery of a programme of events and cultural activity leading towards Kirklees’ Year of Music in 2023.

This is in addition to day to day operations in services that ensure our roads are safe, bins are emptied and parks and open spaces are places for everyone to enjoy.

The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • An ability to work at a high level and communicate professionally with a range of people , including partners, senior managers and elected members.
  • An ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience of working independently and delivering to agreed deadlines an understanding of how local authorities operate and ability to apply that knowledge to Kirklees.
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to co-ordinate project work.
  • Experience of applying project management principles to multiple priorities.

The selection process will comprise a recorded presentation on a set topic and a traditional interview with a panel.
