Kirklees Transcription Service Resource Assistant Audio

Here to support people with sight loss

Kirklees Transcription Service is a Kirklees Library department offering a range of services for people with a visual impairment, their families and carers. Located in Huddersfield Library, our services include transcription of print into braille, audio and large print formats, a free talking newspaper called the KR Talking News, providing support, information and advice about sight loss, delivering events including an annual exhibition called Vision Connect.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the KTS team and make a positive difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

This varied and rewarding role involves: providing a range of information and other resources to visually impaired people in audio and large print formats, assisting with the recording of the KR Talking News, clerical and administrative support for the department, dealing with a wide range of customer enquiries, signposting customers to partners and relevant services, working with volunteers and assisting with the organisation and delivery of events.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of using audio editing software including recording, editing and mastering to different formats using Adobe Audition software or equivalent.
  • The ability to operate specific software and equipment needed to undertake the role e.g. mixing desk, studio equipment, scanner.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • The ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
  • Good interpersonal skills, self-motivation and able to work on your own or as part of a team.
