Building Control Technician

To achieve this our Building Control Service handles a range of tasks related to Building Regulations and other Public Safety Legislation
As a Building Control Technician, you will be on a development path supported through external learning and will be key in taking the service forward in the future in a challenging and changing regulatory environment.
Just some of your main responsibilities as Building Control Technician will include:
- Embarking on a learning pathway towards full professional membership of a recognised body i.e. RICS, CABE
- Assisting on Building Regulatory matters on a range of projects which have significant impact on the health safety and welfare of the public or community
- Analysing and evaluating the functional design features of plans deposited ensuring relevant standards are satisfied.
- Assisting on enforcement matters and undertaking as appropriate site visits to check for statutory compliance.
- Advising the public on Building Regulatory and associated matters.
- Supporting senior officers in delivering the full range of Building Regulatory activities.
Our ideal candidate for this role will have:
- The desire and ability to undertake further training and education.
- Some experience in a Building Control environment, see progression criteria for specific requirements.
- Existing knowledge or understanding of the purpose and role of Building Regulations and allied legislation.
- Knowledge of the legislation affecting dangerous structures and demolitions.
- An understanding of the regulatory process and ability to assist customers through it.
- Understanding of the Building Control environment and challenges.
Additional Salary Information:
You will also be entitled to a retention payment of £1000 per year which will be spilt into two payments, in December and June. You become eligible for the payment after 6 months employment and successful completion of your probationary period. The retention payment increases the annual remuneration to between £19,887 and £28,514 and is reviewed annually.
