Independent School Appeals Panel Member

Brief summary of the role:

We are looking for individuals with a keen eye for detail and sound decision making skills to join our brilliant team of school appeal panel members. 

In the role of a voluntary panel member you will contribute to the decision making of the school appeals hearings. You will give careful consideration to each individual school appeal by asking questions and forming views and opinions based on the evidence given. 

This is a voluntary role but an allowance is paid. You do not need to have specific knowledge on how appeals work or any previous experience in education as full training and support will be provided.

Criteria:  

• Must be flexible and able to work different days of the week.
• School Appeal Hearings are held online via Teams and you may be required to attend hearings at Dewsbury and Huddersfield town Hall in the summer.
• You will be required to attend mandatory training once a year.
• Must not be a current employee of Kirklees Council.
• School Governors may apply
• We are particularly looking to build up our pool of lay panel members with no background in education, but welcome applications from all.

Payment

Panel Members are eligible to receive an allowance to cover travel and subsistence expenses and for associated training (£73 for half a day, £128 for a full day).
