Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Are you experienced in Data Protection, UK General Data Protection Regulation and Freedom of Information? Able to act in an advisory role? Do you have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a team?

You can help West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service by joining the team and providing support in maintaining information governance policies, procedures, processes, and controls to manage the Authority’s information assets to meet legal, risk management and operational requirements.

You will manage and provide appropriate responses to Data Protection, UK General Data Protection Regulation, Freedom of Information, Environmental Information, and related requests.

You will be responsible for implementing, advising, and monitoring adherence to procedures within the established Information Governance Framework, providing advice and guidance on legal and policy considerations whilst ensuring statutory deadlines are achieved. You will act as the initial contact for requests for information from other agencies under Data Protection legislation and will deal with requests ensuring effective compliance. You will investigate complaints and alleged contraventions of the Data Protection Act, maintaining effective records and support training and communications regarding data protection. You will publish data under the transparency agenda and support the Authority’s publication scheme to ensure best practice requirements of the regulator.

You will have considerable experience of compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, UK General Data Protection Regulation, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and be able to monitor performance measures and metrics to ensure compliance, in addition to achieving personal objectives and development targets. You will have considerable experience of acting in an advisory role and be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline and have considerable working knowledge of Access to Information legislation and information governance best practice standards and effective implementation, with knowledge of records management, data retention and disposal procedures. You will have experience of analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data and have the ability to deal with a demanding workload, meet strict deadlines and prioritise work accordingly, using your own initiative.

Whilst you will be required to work from our offices for parts of your initial training, after this you will work both in the office and from home as part of our 'hybrid' working model.
