The Smith Foundation is a registered charity that operates our outstanding special school, a sixth form college, and a children’s home, all for children and young adults experiencing social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH).

The William Henry Smith is a non-maintained residential special school for boys aged 5-19. Our students have a breadth of special educational needs, including learning difficulty and disability. We are a not-for-profit charitable organisation providing ‘Ofsted Outstanding’ education, health, therapy and care. Due to the continued expansion of our provision, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of our facilities and maintenance team within the school. The post holder must be able to prioritise, manage and organise their own workload and ensure the school always has a high-quality environment. We are looking for individuals who wants to be a part of developing and enhancing the schools existing site team. A strong all-round knowledge and skill base in a multi trade environment would be preferable.  The role will involve the implementation of a programme of planned maintenance including joinery, general building work and repairs, and overall maintenance. We will be looking to the post holder to assist in the introduction of systems and regimes for monitoring standards across the site. The successful candidate will be required to understand and follow Health and Safety Guidance and ensure that the practices and procedures are conducted in line with legal compliance needs applicable to the school. A strong work ethic, reliability and self-motivation is essential for this role.

We expect the appointed person to be skilled in all aspects of COSHH and IOSH or CIEH. The role will require close working relationships with the Head of Premises and our established maintenance team in the planning of works required and check and sign off completed tasks. The candidate will ideally also have a first aid qualification and Level 4/5 or Grade C or above in Numeracy and Literacy would also be desirable.  A full driving license is also essential.
