Working for street cleaning, based at Vine Street Depot, Huddersfield, HD1 6NT or George Street Depot, Dewsbury, WF13 2LX, street cleaning duties throughout Kirklees.

This is a generic job role and will involve driving a vehicle up to 7.5t and mini mechanical sweepers (scarab type) which requires a category C1 and full CPC qualification in place, the role also requires you to carry out the duties listed below

As a Front-line member of staff, you will regularly come into contact with citizens and will need to commit to providing excellent customer service.

Requirements of the job :

  • Experience of carrying out physically demanding work, including lifting and removing bagged waste and other materials produced by manual sweepers, be able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Street sweeping, litter clearance, weed removal and digging/grubbing out of verges, cutting back and removing over hanging vegetation
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout all seasons
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to complete basic documentation
  • Ability to defuse conflict situations appropriately and be able to communicate with customers and colleagues on work delivery matters
  • Collection of dead animals (pets and roadside kills in various states of decomposition) and transport to disposal sites
  • Prepared to undertake work patterns 5 days in 7, including a need for early morning starts prior to rush hour traffic, which require flexibility and to work on some public holidays
  • Willingness to carry out further training and development required for the role, including banksman training
  • Grit and remove snow from the depot and highways in winter
  • Complete all allocated daily work to a satisfactory standard

Subject to certain qualifying criteria, the Council may choose to support you through gaining your LGV and CPC driving qualifications.

You will need to have a standard medical screening as determined by the Employee Healthcare Unit appropriate to occupational risk.
