 As an Employment Support Officer (ESO) you will work across Kirklees, in a vital role supporting participants who may have barriers to employment into work. The ESO role aims to assist Works Better Advisers by providing a professional and consistent employment support offer to participants whilst empowering individuals to actively engage with the programme and their own employment journey overcoming personal barriers into work.

An effective ESO will;

  • Work with partners, colleagues and wider support networks across the district, to progress residents into sustainable employment.
  • Be progressive when managing a caseload of referred customers and use a variety of appropriate strategies to help participants overcome barriers and progress into sustainable employment. 
  • Maintain a positive and proactive experience for the participants you support on the Works Better Programme.

These roles are funded by the following ESF (European Social Fund) programme. ESF funds help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, skills development, job creation, social inclusion and local community regenerations. Works Better: Positive Minds; it is an ambitious programme designed to bring together Employment Support and Mental Health provision into one cohesive model. It will provide support for Young People aged 15 to 24 to overcome mental health needs in order for them to progress into Education or Employment. Outcomes include removing barriers to Education and Work, improving residents’ skills, and ultimately sustained employment.

Led by Kirklees District Council, Works Better Positive Minds is a partnership project with a range of delivery partners including CK Careers, Northorpe Hall and S2R. Over the lifetime of the programme it is expected that a minimum of 950 residents will be supported.

Positive Minds will receive up to £1.87 of funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England.

Works Better Enhanced has been developed in response to a Leeds City Region (LCR) European Structural Investment Fund (ESIF) call for the ‘Local Flexibilities for Reducing Unemployment’ provision.

Works Better Enhanced is designed to be inclusive to disadvantaged residents. It will identify and address the barriers faced by all age groups seeking employment, irrespective of background and personal circumstance. The project provides a personalised, holistic service offering a comprehensive and innovative matrix of support activities. This will be combined with an effective referral process to specialist support agencies where necessary.

Led by Kirklees Council, Works Better Enhanced is managed by Kirklees Council it is delivered across the Kirklees District in partnership with Fusion Housing, Paddock Community Trust, Proper Job Theatre Company and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. Delivery will run until September 2022.

Works Better Enhanced is receiving up to £3,113,574 of funding from the European Social Fund as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England.
