Foster Carers - Kirklees Council

Being a foster carer is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our local vulnerable children and young people.

Now more than ever, Kirklees children need local families who can provide them with a loving, nurturing, and stable home. Whether it be for a few weeks or a few years, as a foster carer you will have a positive impact on a child’s life.

By providing a supportive and nurturing home, as a foster carer you can change a young person's life, helping them to feel safe, happy, and valued.  Foster carers have a huge impact on a child’s life, helping them to improve their confidence and self-esteem, and be able to build a brighter, stronger future. All it takes is someone like you, to make that difference.

We would love to hear from anyone who can offer a home to our children, of any age, even into early adulthood.

We particularly welcome people who could support children over 10 years old and help us keep brothers and sisters together.

You need to be over 21 years old to foster, with a spare room and the time and space in your life, to commit to a young person, along with the skills to support them in reaching their potential.

As a Kirklees Foster Carer, you’ll be a key member of a team, which includes professionals from Social Work, Health, and Education, who will support you in caring for the young person in your home and assist you in your role too.

There is a financial package payable to all foster carers, access to comprehensive training, and dedicated support from our experienced practitioners at every stage.   You’ll be part of the Kirklees Fostering Network, with lots of opportunity to meet and make relationships with other foster carers in your area and across the borough.

All prospective foster carers have a full assessment including DBS and medical checks.

We welcome and encourage enquiries from people of all religions, races, genders, and sexuality. Our foster carers reflect a wide range of circumstances and life experience.  We assess everybody on their individual circumstances.

Please contact Fostering@kirklees.gov.uk / 0800 389 0086 for a chat with our fostering advisors to find out much more about becoming a foster carer for us at Kirklees Council.
