Several vacancies exist for a Governing Body Minute Clerk (part-time evenings) – various vacancies within Kirklees.

Salary: £67.53 per meeting plus mileage

Kirklees Council is very keen to support the work of school governing bodies and academies by finding able people to act as minute clerk at governors’ meetings. A Governing Body meets around six times a year (in term time), usually in the evenings. You could work for more than one school or clerk governors’ committee meetings to increase your earnings. Most Governing boards have adopted a hybrid way of meeting therefore some meetings may be clerked remotely.

The most immediate role of a minute clerk is to take notes of the key points and decisions at School Governing Body meetings and at home turn them into minutes using an agreed template (using Microsoft Word). Minutes are then submitted (via Digital Kirklees) to the Governor Clerking Service within 10 days. You are not a governor, you do not vote, or contribute directly to the debate.

Full training will be available as well as access to support and guidance from the central team to help you fulfil the expectations of the role.  On appointment you will take part in an online training programme which is aimed at broadening your knowledge of school governance and developing clerking skills. A Guidance Handbook and further information will also be provided on appointment. In addition, you will have access to attend termly briefings as well as CPD opportunities for accreditation.

Requirements for this role:

  • You will need access to Word Processing and email/internet facilities
  • Ability to produce work to a high standard
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • A willingness to learn the application of School Governance Regulations and procedures
  • Having your own transport is desirable

Part of the selection process will require you to attend and shadow an experienced clerk at an actual governing body meeting and take minutes.
