Due to a promotion for the existing staff member, there is a permanent vacancy for a Service Support Officer working as part of Corporate Customer Standards, which is within the Revenues and Benefits Service. The small team (3.5 FTE) is currently based in High Street Buildings in the centre of town, and with a mix of home working.


You will be responsible for providing excellent customer service for all council services, helping to support handling complex complaint enquiries and liaison with the Local Government Ombudsman. You will gain many transferrable skills for services across the council particularly in the areas of customer service, complaint handling administration, interpreting legislation and policy.


We are looking for either a full time post or near full time.


Some of our customers are vulnerable, present a complex set of circumstances and may be demanding about a resolution to their needs. Equally the work can be very rewarding and many individuals and families will benefit significantly from the advice and guidance you will provide The role will require considerable liaison with other council services to collate and collect information, and you will gain an understanding of many council procedures, processes and legislation. Key areas include Adult Services, Planning and Environmental Services. You will be required to identify whether services have dealt with complaint matters in accordance with policy and legislation, to check customer standards, and to be able to clearly and simply explain your conclusions. The work you do will feed into service learning, development and future policy and procedure.

Full on the job training will be given to enable you to acquire an in-depth knowledge of relevant services. We work in a culture where we share knowledge and help each other so there is plenty of support there after training. The team is a small one and a high level of sickness absence would adversely impact upon its effective performance. Previous sickness absence records will be taken into account when considering suitability for this role.
