Following recent staffing changes, we have the opportunity for a Cover Supervisor to come and join our fantastic team at Southgate School.

Southgate is a special school for pupils with complex needs and an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). We are a safe nurturing school where individuals are celebrated, and our pupils are supported to develop their unique potential and are given a fresh start every day.

At Southgate, we value all our people and you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our incredible and diverse children and young people.  As a member of our team you will have the opportunity to develop new skills and we support progression and professional development. Working for Southgate you will be provided with the following:

  • An extensive and supportive induction programme
  • Ongoing supportive performance management
  • Continuous professional development
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Career progression and development opportunities
  • Supportive distributed leadership
  • Access to wider support and employee healthcare with a significant focus on wellbeing initiatives
  • Centrally located with parking and convenient transport links
  • Term time working
  • Access to Kirklees Active Leisure membership
  • West Yorkshire Pension Fund

At Southgate School we have 3 pathways and as a Cover Supervisor you will work across these different pathways.

Orchard: For pupils who benefit (or will be able to) from a more formal curriculum. In most cases, their primary need is cognition and learning.

Forest: For pupils who need a semi-formal curriculum. In most cases, their primary need is communication and interaction.

Woodland: For pupils with high levels of anxiety who need a more personalised and flexible approach. Their primary need is usually around their social, emotional and mental health.

As a Cover Supervisor you will deliver learning under the supervision of the teacher to individuals and small groups of pupils. You will have the confidence to lead a class and take responsibility for behaviour and learning and will be able to cover short term absences (pre-planned). You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills by working flexibility across the classes to support the needs of the school.

We employ over 100 members of staff who are skilled in providing person centred support to our pupils. We are proud of the warm and nurturing environment we have built which is a continuing key priority for us.

Below are some of the comments from our staff following our recent wellbeing survey:

“I have recently been challenged both mentally and emotionally within my work role. I can honestly say I have been totally supported by my line manager, a highly valued teacher and SLT”.

“I think the structure of line management is really supportive and enables staff to feel comfortable sharing their opinions more freely”.

“Excellent support from line management and SLT with my own mental health. I would like to say a big thank you to all”.

“I believe the school takes the wellbeing of staff seriously and offers a high level of support. I feel supported by my line manager and colleagues”.
