This job is temporary up to March 2023 to cover a project

As we continue to respond to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, being able to plan for recovery is also crucially important to us. As the Council embarks upon it's recovery journey, we have agreed that we will work together to foster inclusion and diversity, grow an inclusive economy, protect the most vulnerable, and improve the health and wellbeing of citizens.

In recent years, we have driven transformational change to develop a very different, outcomes focused organisation. We have also established a Corporate Planning function which supports the achievement of our outcomes by putting effective strategic planning mechanisms in place. Alongside our response to the pandemic, we want to continue this work within the context of our new operating environment. We want to be able to respond positively and proactively to the way the pandemic has potentially changed the way we live and work for the longer term, and bring this understanding into the way in which we plan for recovery.

The Project Manager will work to support this recovery and transformation journey, by managing the day-to-day implementation of projects within the Corporate Planning function of the council. The Corporate Planning function supports the production and delivery of the Council Plan, production and maintenance of a Corporate Calendar and other plans and strategies which aim to deliver our corporate priorities for change.

To be successful in this role, you will need the technical knowledge, behaviours and experience to support transformational change and have an understanding of the impacts the pandemic has had on communities, local government and the wider public sector. You will be an experienced Project Manager and be able to work independently, working in a highly collaborative way with colleagues from other key enabling functions.

If successful, you will join an ambitious, creative, and highly collaborative team which continually strives for excellence as part of a modern, flexible, and emotionally intelligent workforce.

You will report to a Programme Manager and will work with colleagues across the council and partnership who are looking to transform what they do and how they do it, in the context of our ambitions for recovery.

You will have day to day management of projects of work, with support from the Programme Manager, ensuring that all services in scope are involved. You will plan and design projects proactively - monitoring progress, resolving issues, and initiating corrective action as appropriate. Tasks will include:

  • Overseeing the day to day development and delivery of one or more projects within the corporate planning function, particularly in relation to recovery planning, including taking responsibility for producing progress reports, managing stakeholder relationships and keeping tracking information up to date.
  • Supporting the delivery of corporate events, engagement exercises and other meetings relating to corporate planning activities.
  • Coordinating meetings related to recovery planning, taking effective minutes, planning agendas, updating forward plans and following up on actions.
  • Tracking and recording key government policy shifts and local decision making, in order to support informed decision making and planning related to recovery.
  • Maintaining an overview of the current position relating to the recovery plans of services by liaising with business continuity leads and Heads of Service.
  • Undertaking research and analysis into best practice from other local authorities, public sector organisations and private sector bodies and making relevant contacts where appropriate.

We can offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Excellent annual leave entitlement and pension benefits
  • Mobile and agile working
  • Supportive team environment
