Are you an experienced engineer looking for an opportunity to improve the lives of the local people of Kirklees? We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team in the Highways Service. You will be based at Headlands Depot.

Kirklees is attracting a significant level of investment into the district, which is funding major highway infrastructure improvements, upgrade of utility networks including major investment in fibre, as well as new homes and businesses.

This exciting new opportunity offers work in design and developmental schemes associated with new developments across Kirklees.  Principal Engineer role is very varied and fast paced. This role will offer you the opportunity to share your experience, knowledge, and expertise in Highways Design.

 

We are looking for a Principal Engineer who already has:

  • In depth experience, knowledge and a practical approach to delivering a wide range of highway projects.
  • Effective and efficient communication skills, both written and verbal to be able to manage and supervise a front line workforce

As Principal Engineer, your key responsibilities and duties will consist of:

  • Delivering and supervising others to deliver, a wide range of highway projects, and to manage a challenging workload which is subject to change at short notice. 
  • Managing a number of Senior Engineers, Engineers, Apprentices and a site skilled workforce of approximately 50 employees.
  • Delivering planned and reactive work.
  • Providing an emergency callout service, plus a severe weather response
  • Fulfilling the role of duty holder in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, in particular, Contractor and Principal Contractor.
  • Working with both Highways Operatives and our outside contractors to ensure complaint scheme delivery to time and to budget.
  • Liaising with and advising various Council departments and partners. 
  • Investigating requests from members of the public, Councillors and MPs with regards to highway defects and requests for repairs.
  • Be responsible for the wellbeing of yourself and others on a day to day basis.
