These roles involve working on public holidays excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

This role, based in our Cleansing Service, involves driving Light Goods Vehicle (LGV) mechanical sweepers to make sure the streets of Kirklees are kept clean.

Your main responsibility will be to drive vehicles up to and including LGVs in compliance with legal obligations and expectations for driver behaviour.  You will collect bags of waste filled by your allocated manual sweeper.

You need to be physically fit and active to deal with the demands of the role, working outdoors in all weathers.

You will work on your own or part of a team taking responsibility for the Manual Sweeper allocated to you.

As a front line member of staff, you will regularly meet the public and need to be committed to excellent customer service.

To undertake your role, you will receive support and be provided with appropriate training and personal protective equipment.

 Requirements for the job:

  • Hold C1 on your driving licence allowing you to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes
  • Drive mechanical sweepers in line with traffic regulations, the Highway Code and legislation for health and safety.
  • Clearance of waste including fly tipping, dead animals and transport to waste site
  • Undertake driver checks, maintain and clean vehicles (as far as expected). Report any accidents, faults or repair needs promptly.
  • Ensure driver records, time sheets and other information systems such as In-Cab are correctly maintained in a timely manner.
  • Good level of maths and English to allow completion of timesheets, work records and other management information required
  • Awareness of Health and Safety linked to the role
  • To contribute to the performance management of staff, including training, instruction and supervision, providing feedback and challenge where necessary.
  • Remove grit and snow as directed, in winter

You will need to have a standard medical screening as determined by the Employee Healthcare Unit appropriate to occupational risk.
