The Directorate for Children and Families is responsible for ensuring that the full range of the Council’s statutory responsibilities for children and young people are met. The Director for Learning and Early Support has a statutory responsibility to ensure the co-operation of the Council and partners in providing efficient and effective services to improve outcomes for children and young people.
As an integral part of the Learning and Early Support Service, the Governor Clerking Service has both statutory and commercial functions, and as such has a significant role to play in supporting best outcomes for children and young people by working collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues across the Council. The team works with school leaders and governing bodies to provide effective support and guidance in order to strengthen school leadership and governance and fulfilling the Council’s statutory duties in relation to school governance.
The team holds a comprehensive knowledge base and the expertise to support full governing body meetings, statutory committees as well as all aspects of professional clerking enabling them to provide advice and support on governance regulations and procedures.
You will provide business support related to statutory and commercial functions of the Governor Clerking Service. The team is currently based in Huddersfield Town Centre, although the role will require you to attend school settings. The job is responsible to the School Governance Business Manager.
Main Duties:
- Data processing (input and retrieval), including service based IT systems
- Specialist and technical administrative support
- Responding to complex enquiries
- Complex and specialist word processing
- Processing and accounting for cash, cheques, direct debits, invoices
- Information and record management as directed
- Clerk to governing body
It is essential that you have good IT skills and that you are familiar with a variety of computer packages in particular Microsoft Office and that you are able to demonstrate business and administration skills to NVQ Level 3.

Working pattern
Hybrid working, but you may be required to attend council buildings.
