We’re Kirklees – Come and Join our team

We’re on an ambitious journey and looking for passionate and committed social workers to join our teams which are already transforming our children and young people services.

Our last Ofsted inspection highlighted our progress stating:

"progress has been achieved through increased corporate commitment and investment in services, clear and focused leadership, strengthening of partnerships for example the duty and advice team, and improved workforce stability and engagement.

Children who need help and protection are now recognised, and risk of significant harm is quickly responded to.”

We are not complacent and continue our hard work on our improvement plan to ensure that we offer the best service to children and families in Kirklees.

Our progress so far is clear:

  • The social work teams are now close to full complement and all leadership and management posts are filled with permanent staff.

  • Advanced Practitioners provide more support for social workers and more focus on developing practice.

  • Working in locality teams and building effective relationships with partners.

  • A remuneration package which reflects the challenges of the role.

A rare secondment opportunity has arisen to join a small but well established team within Kirklees that sits within the Fostering service.

The Connected Person Assessment Team is responsible for completing assessments of family members or friends or those who are considered ‘connected’ to a child.

The work is fast paced, and Court driven. You will be working closely with other Social Work teams within Kirklees such as Assessment and Intervention and the Children in Care service.

The team undertake initial viability assessments, Emergency Reg 24 assessments and Full Fostering Assessments which are presented to Fostering panel. Experience of completing these types of assessments would be valuable but not essential.

These positions are temporary but this is an opportunity to work within a niche area of Social Work which will enhance your skills and knowledge within the area of Connected Persons and Fostering.

Ideally you will be level 3 or above and looking to start with immediate effect.

Our Offer to You:

“Senior managers have successfully recruited and retained social workers……. Kirklees Council nurtures and develops its new social work staff.” (Ofsted 2019)

We are pioneering a Restorative Practice approach to social work which involves innovation and locality working with high quality relationships at the heart of our approach. You will work with manageable caseloads and we will ensure that you have high-quality professional development and receive high standards of induction, supervision and management.

We have a bespoke learning and development offer at all levels of social work allowing you access to professional development opportunities enabling you to develop and progress your career. Our well-established career structure also supports us to develop our own managers and leaders.
