Adult Social Care & Operation is part of the Adults & Health Directorate and supports vulnerable adults to develop or retain their health and independence for as long as possible.

The Community Enablement Team is an innovative service which supports people with a learning disability, mental health needs or autism to become as independent as they can be.

This is done through structured short-term interventions which could include but not limited to problem-solving, skills training, confidence building and independent travel training.

You will work alongside service users in their homes and communities across Kirklees to help them acquire the skills they need to be as independent as they can.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary approach with other services and community groups to help the person to develop a sustainable network of support.

You will be expected to work in a person-centred way that focuses on the persons strengths.

It is essential that you have a good level of understanding of Adult Social Care.

You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional training and development and possess a basic awareness of both health and safety issues and food hygiene.

Supporting people with diagnosed mental health conditions is a developing aspect of the role.

You will work with people from diverse community groups who may have barriers to communication – this can include language or impairment.

Ideally applicants will have experience of communicating with people who find it difficult to engage with support networks, and have experience of supporting people who have mental health needs.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car. Exceptions may be made for disabled applicants.

We plan to interview on the 30th August.

Melanie Armitage is the manager for this role, please contact them on 01484 221000 for an informal discussion, or if you need any more information.
This job is subject to a DBS check at the appropriate level, please refer to the Job Description/Profile.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
