Kirklees MH Support Service offers a responsive service to individuals with issues around their housing situation and welfare benefits by developing support plans tailored to meet the Service User’s needs. You would be responsible for identifying the most appropriate accommodation for that individual completing the necessary referrals and providing supporting evidence for the application to be considered by various housing providers including homelessness applications to prevent delayed discharge.

A knowledge of the Welfare Benefits System would be advantages in supporting our client group to navigate the system, provide supporting evidence for claims, attend medical assessments and support individuals with Mandatory Reconsiderations / Appeals. You would also support individuals who have issues with debt management and support them with managing this or looking at other potential avenues such as DRO / Bankruptcy.

You would also identify general activities of daily living and either address these issues or signpost to relevant services who can support them. We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and confident people who have some experience of working in a caring environment with vulnerable people. Your roles will be to carry out a low level assessment of service users and you will therefore need an understanding of the needs of vulnerable people and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Requirements for this job:

  • Experience of working in a caring environment in a paid or unpaid capacity with a relevant service group.
  • Ability to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills to write assessments, reviews, discharges and keep accurate records with supporting correspondence as required.
  • Awareness of, and commitment to, implementing Health and Safety requirements at work.
  • An understanding of the differing physical and emotional needs pertaining to the specific user group.
  • Ability to identify needs of individuals and formulate support plans.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of other agencies and their contribution to service delivery.
  • Willingness to continue further personal training and development and to agree a personal development plan.
  • Possession of a full and valid driving licence (exceptions can be made for disabled applicants).

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car.
