Strengthening safeguarding arrangements for adults in Kirklees remains a key priority for the Kirklees Safeguarding Adults Board. Under the Care Act 2014 local authorities have a duty to establish and run Safeguarding Adults Boards to “help and protect” adults at risk in its area. The Kirklees Safeguarding Adults Board is well-established and is proud of its strong leadership identified through a recent Peer Challenge, which found that the board was well led and strategically driven.

Our highly regarded independent chair retires in March 2021 and we want to appoint another chair to provide professional leadership and robust positive challenge to the board for 3 years. We welcome applications from an exceptional individual with appropriate skills and experience to ensure the safeguarding of adults at risk of abuse and neglect is championed by all agencies.

As chair you will have a key role in driving forward the wider safeguarding agenda in Kirklees. You will ensure that safeguarding performance by all agencies is rigorously reviewed and monitored. You will also promote good working relationships between individual members, agencies, and other partnerships

If you have substantial experience of effective leadership and collaborative working at a senior level along with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the confidence to hold agencies to account, then this is an excellent opportunity for you to make a real difference to adults at risk in Kirklees.

To be considered, please submit your CV and supporting information to cpa.secretaries@kirklees.gov.uk with ‘KSAB Independent Chair’ as the subject. Your CV must refer to the specific requirements for this role and your supporting information should tell us why you should be considered for this appointment, and what you will bring to the Kirklees Safeguarding Adults Board.

Interviews will be held on Monday 11th January 2021 and as part of their induction, the successful applicant will be required to attend the Kirklees Safeguarding Adults Board on Monday 8th February, as well as the Board’s Challenge Event which is scheduled to take place on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th February 2021.

To maintain the integrity of this appointment, applicants must not have any current affiliation with any of the agencies represented on the Board, and must be able to demonstrate that they can continue to independently lead the Board.

For an informal discussion, please contact Richard Parry, Strategic Director for Adults and Health on 01484 221000 or Mike Houghton Evans, Independent Chair on 07946 506682 or Alexia Gray, Head of Quality, Standards and Safeguarding Partnerships on 01484 221000.
