We are looking for Social Workers to join our team

There’s a real family feel to our teams; we have approachable and supportive managers who have an open door and are willing to listen and, as a team, we all pull together to support each other and share our expertise.

You will be based in Batley or Huddersfield, and you’ll have the very best kit to be able to work flexibly across the borough giving you more time to do the job you love in a way that also supports you to achieve the work life balance you need. We know Social Work is not a 9-5 job and we know how important that balance is.

Presently due to the pandemic team members have been predominantly working from home and undertaking essential visits when needed.

We understand that social work is not an easy job and how important it is to take care of ourselves. We take your wellbeing seriously with wellbeing champions in our teams who understand when you might need additional support as well as keeping us energised through regular team activities.

Our teams work across a number of small towns and villages in North and South Kirklees. Our strengths-based practice means we tap into local resources and work positively with a really broad range of professionals and other teams. The way we work means your professional social work skills will be at the fore in Court of Protection, Safeguarding and DOLs work.

The Care Act 2014 places Safeguarding Adults on a statutory footing and these developments are welcomed in Kirklees.   We are keen to hear about your skills which should include ability to identify Safeguarding Concerns and analyse the level of associated risk, and how this is underpinned by the principle of ‘Making Safeguarding Personal’, excellent communication skills, excellent recording skills, defensible decision making skills, and ability to provide timely response to address immediate safety issues.

We are committed to providing our social workers with exceptional levels of support, from a comprehensive induction through to continuous personal and professional development. We provide and encourage you to make the most of the high-quality opportunities we offer. We are focused on your own personal and professional development; we will support you to enhance your skills and practice and be the best you can be. We have an established career structure in place to help you get where you want to be in your career.

You must hold a recognised Social Work Qualification and be registered with Social Work England regulator.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time.  It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car (exceptions can be made for disabled applicants).

Interviews to take place week commencing 23rd November 2020.

Naseem Akhtar is the manager for this role, please contact them on 01484 221000 for an informal discussion, or if you need any more information.
This job is subject to a DBS check at the appropriate level, please refer to the Job Description/Profile.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
We know there’s a wealth of talent among people who have a disability and we encourage applications from people with all differing abilities. So, if you need any support completing an application form, or any other format for the application or Job Description please contact the Recruitment Team for help by email: jobs@kirklees.gov.uk or phone: 01484 221000 and ask for ‘Recruitment’.

If you are internal and want to apply for this job as a secondment you must be a substantive employee of the Council with over 6 months continuous service and have successfully completed your probation period.

Applications for secondments will only be accepted if approved by your manager, you will be asked to confirm on your application form that you have the relevant permission. If you are refused permission to apply for a secondment, please contact HR Recruitment to register the refusal.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
