The role will be predominantly home-based with some travel to Kirklees, regional and national meetings required as part of the role.

The Council has recently developed an ambitious Data and Insight Strategy. To support and enable delivery of our Strategy, we are building a new Data and Insight Function within the Council.

About the role

This role is one of several exciting new roles we’ve created to contribute to a successful, efficient, and effective Data and Insight Service. As an Azure Data Engineer in the Council, you will get the opportunity to work with a wide variety and large volume of interesting and high value datasets.

The role will be instrumental in modernising the councils existing dataflows in collaboration with data management and engineering colleagues. Innovation and deployment of robust foundational practice including data pipelines and warehouse structures will be a key feature of this role. Work conducted in this role will directly contribute to improving health, social and economic outcomes across Kirklees and be critical in supporting statutory outputs.

You will lead work on database design, development, maintenance and management; utilising modern and best practice data engineering standards to seek out opportunities for efficiency, effectiveness and innovation. You will also lead work on identifying and deploying effective testing regimes and will be instrumental in deploying resolutions in a timely manner. The ability to document and communicate your work and knowledge with colleagues will be influential in supporting the service, council and partnership objectives.

This is an exciting time to join us as we build the Council’s data engineering and development practice. You will get the opportunity to deploy and enhance your Microsoft Azure skills and knowledge; and be part of a journey that includes embedding agile ways of working.

About you

We are looking for someone who shares our energy and ambition for how data can be used to make a tangible difference to outcomes for people and places.

You will have proven experience in leading the design, build and testing of data products and services within a Microsoft Azure environment. You will have a deep understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles and tools available for use within an Azure environment. This includes strong knowledge in data modelling, storage and ETL processing. You will have experience of producing relevant data models across multiple subject areas with efficient and appropriate structures for business intelligence and analysis.

As an Azure Data Engineer, you will be confident in your ability to develop, implement and embed best practice data engineering standards, tools, and approaches, ensuring quality is central to everything we do. You will be committed to continuous improvement and have a desire to succeed – individually and as part of a team.

If you are looking for a role that is challenging and hugely rewarding, and you have the skills and ambition we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
