This job is internally restricted. To apply for this job you must be an employee of the Council for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date. We require an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer who will lead and be the first line manager of a small team of professional and technical staff.

This role is in the Pollution and Noise Control team, leading the Majors and Project Support team – who will be concerned with supporting both the Environmental Health Service and our Planning, Major Transport and Housing Growth services to deliver on the Council’s ambitious new Local and Corporate Plans.

The SEHO will lead the team who will be responsible for responding to planning consultations, reviewing complex specialist reports, processing pre-application enquiries, attending meetings and committees, providing expert technical advice on projects and development proposals. The SEHO will be expected to take a leading role in the more complex work and overseeing the work of the team on day to day matters, ensuring targets and deadlines are met, and producing/editing guidance for the team/colleagues as required.

The SEHO will support the team leader to ensure that the Service is providing highly professional and technically accurate support and advice, ensuring that quality is maintained, performance is monitored and training and development of staff is kept current and up to date.

There will be an expectation that members of the team and the SEHO will be working from the individual services we support so we are providing direct on hand and immediate advice. To that end, the successful candidate will be likely to be working in a number of different offices/locations.
