Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The William Henry Smith School.

Due to bringing our cleaning provision in house we are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated Cleaning Manager.

The successful candidate will possess the necessary qualities to play an integral role in the smooth running of the Smith Foundation’s Cleaning function.

The Smith Foundation is a registered charity that operates our outstanding special school, a bespoke education, support and tuition service, and a children’s home, all for children and young adults experiencing social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH).

The William Henry Smith is a non-maintained residential special school for boys aged 5-19. Our students have a breadth of special educational needs, including learning difficulty and disability. We are a not for profit charitable organisation providing ‘Ofsted Outstanding’ education, health, therapy and care. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  

The school operates across 2 sites, ‘the main school site’ and from our satellite provision in Elland. This provision – BEST (Bespoke Education, Support and Tuition) is an extension to the school, providing much needed ‘specialised’ support to children and young adults who are struggling to flourish as a consequence of complex needs, and/or significant time out of any school or education provision.

The successful application will:

  • Have a good standard of Numeracy and Literacy
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of management of a small team
  • Have the ability to produce rotas for cleaning timetables and carry out inspections to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Have good knowledge cleaning best practices
  • Have knowledge of COSHH and the safe use of chemicals
  • Be approachable and able to communicate effectively whilst building relationships with your team, colleagues and students
  • Have a clean and full driving licence
  • Have an awareness of Health & Safety Regulations relating to cleaning materials and equipment
  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Be confident and highly motivated
  • Be able to work on own initiative
  • Be passionate in motivating, inspiring and safeguarding young people and team members
  • Be honest and act with integrity, be trustworthy and understand the need for confidentiality
  • Embrace and support the school’s Quality of Life and Positive Behaviour Support ethos
  • Have a positive attitude and mind-set, embracing the positive physical and mental health and wellbeing ethos. This includes role modelling self-care and reflection as part of our wider curriculum
