Educational Teaching Assistant (Specialist Provision for Physical Impairment)

The role is initially fixed term until 16th July 2021, pending educational needs and funding available. The role is to commence September 2020.

Salary: Single Status Grade 6, 30 hrs per week, 8.30am until 3.10pm, Monday to Friday, term time only & flexibility to work in-service training days as required.

(2 days are scheduled throughout the academic year).

Newsome High School has a strong ethos that develops young people educationally, physically, morally and socially in a disciplined, safe and caring environment. Our highly committed staff, superb facilities and extensive range of enrichment activities are helping to make an increasingly positive contribution to the lives of our students and the wider community.

We are seeking to recruit talented individuals to join our existing team of staff within the PI designated specialist provision for students with physical impairment.

You will work in a team which includes teachers and other support staff as part of the PI specialist provision in a mainstream school, to support the learning and welfare of students with complex needs, who have Educational Health Care plans.

The students have a diverse range of complex needs, from mobility difficulties to medical conditions and visual impairment. In this role you may be required to work with any of our students, so an ability to work flexibly and a willingness to undertake or update PI specific training are required. In addition, confidence and competence in the use of information technology are highly desired as some students are reliant upon this. Most students require some level of support with their personal care needs. As a team, we actively encourage independence wherever possible in all areas of school.

You will be a professional and positive role model that can instil confidence, independence and a ‘can do’ attitude in students so that they can achieve their full potential. You will need to have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, be open, approachable and committed to meeting the needs of students both in and out of the classroom.

In return we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to work in an exciting, successful and forward looking school, supported by talented committed and conscientious colleagues
  • An excellent environment in which to further develop your skills with outstanding opportunities for professional development
  • Friendly staff and students in a supportive and happy school

If you would like to discuss the role further contact us on the email below. We want to hear from you. We would normally encourage you to visit the school beforehand; however, due to the current global pandemic we are unable to offer this at this current time.

An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this position. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
