There are a number of major and smaller markets within the Kirklees District, including farmers markets and a range of themed markets and events. Markets are operated over 362 days per year.

Working on a rota basis as Market Officer you will be expected to supervise the Assistant Market Officers to carry out general market cleaning and maintenance both indoors and outdoors in all weather. You will have responsibility for processing leases/ licences and financial payment agreements, ordering of stock, health and safety checks and the supervision of a small team.

You will be responsible for the direct supervision of Assistant Market Officers (AMO’s) on a daily basis throughout the working day. You will be required to undertake a variety of business support duties including administrative, financial and customer liaison as part of your role.

Requirements for this job:

  • Ability to accurately process information via e-mail, intranet and other forms of software.
  • Experience of accurately monitoring and processing financial information.
  • Experience of supervising a small team, coordinating and delegating tasks.
  • Willing to undertake tasks with some exposure to disagreeable weather conditions.
  • Has an appreciation of the role of markets in town centre regeneration and experience of supporting themed events.
  • Physically capable of undertaking tasks which involve, erecting market stalls, operating machinery, lifting, carrying, pulling or pushing items of heavy weight, and a variety of cleaning and/or maintenance.
  • Hold a full and valid driving licence and be willing to undertake the Kirklees Driving Test.
  • Ability to work and travel across different work locations.
  • Willing to support the co-ordination of events through supervision, team working and organisational ability.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and distribute information to traders.
  • Has knowledge of market regulations in relation to management of markets to required standards.
