Working as the Fire Safety Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery of our fire safety requirements, striving to achieve a key part of the Council’s vision – “people enjoy better health throughout their lives”

Working with colleagues, partners and external consultants, you will ensure that a high quality, customer focused, and efficient fire safety function is delivered. You will take responsibility for operational matters relating to fire safety within the Capital Delivery and Facilities Management (CD&FM) service.

Responsibilities will extend within a matrix arrangement and the post holder will ensure a joined-up response to complex problems that may cut across the Capital Delivery & Facilities Management service, as well as other services/directorates.

The core responsibilities of the post include

  • Working alongside our Fire Risk Management Officers and Fire Safety Officers within the Kirklees Council fire safety team
  • Proactive programming of our fire safety service and maintenance needs based on risk, and compliance/standards requirements
  • Responsibility for ensuring the continued delivery of servicing our fire alarm systems, sprinklers, emergency lighting, smoke controls systems, fire-fighting equipment etc
  • Recommending and implementing any repairs/replacements required based on service and maintenance regime
  • Overseeing our internal and external partners providing fire safety systems/advice including alarms and fire-fighting equipment etc
  • Ensuring works carried out by internal and external partners are suitable and carried out correctly.
  • Working as a member of multi-disciplinary teams delivering fire safety advice and guidance as requested
  • Provision of fire safety training across the Council.
  • Provide 24hr call out as required/rota
  • Knowledge of 3rd party accreditation for fire safety systems
  • Extensive knowledge/experience of BS5839 pt 1 2017 fire alarm servicing and design/installation

Extensive experience in fire safety management and fire safety maintenance and relevant standards is essential for this role.
