Kirklees Council is advertising this role on behalf of West Yorkshire Combined Authority

We are seeking to appoint a Service Manager in our Business Support Team within the Economic Services Directorate. You will be responsible for reviewing and appraising grant applications to the Combined Authority’s Business Growth Programme which provides financial support to businesses towards capital related investment that will lead to job creation.

The post is currently being offered on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2022, with employment beyond that date subject to the securing of further external funding.  

It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement that a £1.8bn devolution deal has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.

The role

Reporting into the Senior Service Manager (Access to Finance) your key responsibilities will include:

  • Project management of the Business Growth Programme.
  • Appraising applications for financial support from businesses.
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with key partners and stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the programme.
  • Line management of a Programme Support Officer.

About you

You will have the following key skills, attributes and experience but not be limited to:

  • Excellent analytical and written skills.
  • An understanding of the issues facing small and medium sized businesses.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, including direct engagement with businesses.
