Head of Housing Services
Location: Hybrid / Civic Centre 1
In Kirklees we are focused on outcomes and believe everyone has the right to a decent home and is central to the shared outcomes the council seeks to deliver with its partners to ensure people live healthy lives from which they can secure employment and education opportunities. We are proud of the diversity of our towns and villages and work with our citizens to develop a strong sense of place. We have a significant programme of investment in the physical infrastructure of our places and their rich histories. We are committed to an inclusive Kirklees and to ensuring that everyone benefits from improved outcomes. We recognise that this means we need to pay particular attention to how we work with some of our more vulnerable citizens and how we create the conditions for people to live fulfilling lives.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic leader with a track record of improving and innovating services and the skills to work effectively with partners, customers and elected members for this key role. The role needs to build the connections between housing, homelessness, community safety and the wider health and social care system.
This key role will be responsible for leading and shaping our Housing Solutions service and team which includes housing allocations, private sector lettings, accessible homes and homelessness and rough sleeping services. You will provide leadership and direction to the service and develop an organisational culture which is positive, performance-driven and customer-focused and in which staff are valued, empowered, trusted and encouraged to embrace change and innovation. You will also have excellent working knowledge and understanding of the implications of local government issues, legislation and statutory obligations, which affect the housing solutions service with particular focus on developing solutions to the current national and local context of unprecedented demand for housing with a particular focus on working with private sector landlords to ensure the council is able to reduce the number of households living temporary housing and bed and breakfast accommodation.
This is an exciting time to join us, with the opportunity to work within a strong, experienced team and the opportunity to shape and develop the service as well as recruit new staff.
