Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The Mirfield Free Grammar.

1 year contract to start ASAP.

We are looking to recruit Support for Learning Assistants to work as part of the dedicated Learning Support team within our Academy. Under the direction of the class teacher and line manager you will provide learning support for students who have been identified has having ‘special educational needs’.

Key duties will include:

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff in the classroom to enable them to support the learning of SEND students.
  • Actively encouraging SEND students in the classroom setting; helping to maintain their interest and keeping them motivated.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to make reasonable adjustments to lesson resources and teaching activities to ensure accessibility for students with SEND.
  • Liaise and communicate with parents of SEND students and outside agencies.
  • Contribute to the process of Provision Maps and My Support Plans.
  • Providing a specific subject focus in both literacy and maths.
  • Supporting students and delivering interventions on a one to one or small group basis.
  • Providing detailed reports and observation notes for the head of the Support for Learning team.

A degree qualification is desirable but not essential. Finding the right person for the role is crucial.

You must have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ideally you should have some experience of working with children and should enjoy working as part of a team. You must have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the welfare and educational development of students with special needs.
