Transport Services is responsible for all aspects of transport and related services including, procurement, maintenance and disposal on behalf of the Council. Transport services currently have a fleet size of approximately 800 vehicles ranging from small light commercials to large heavy goods refuse vehicles. Transport Services operate from three vehicle repair facilities across Kirklees.

This role will require you to carry out vehicle inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs to vehicles and plants operated by Kirklees Council, in line with DVSA standards. You will be expected to work at George Street Depot in Dewsbury and may occasionally be asked to work at our other workshop which is in Huddersfield.

This work is on a two weekly rotational schedule. You will be expected to work during Week 1 on Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Friday from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. During Week 2 you will be expected to work Monday to Thursday from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Friday from 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Experience in the servicing and maintenance of light commercial and HGV vehicles to DVSA standards, with extensive post apprenticeship experience
  • Possession of HGV licence or willingness to undertake training to obtain
  • City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 in Motor Vehicle
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation as it relates to the workshop environment
  • Willingness to work at various locations within Kirklees areas
  • Willing to be part of the out of hours standby rota
