We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and passionate manager to join our growing markets team. You will have a passion for working with people and local businesses and have a proven track record of operational business delivery and improvement.

It is a very exciting time for the Markets services within Kirklees Council, because of significant investment in the markets service in the coming years. This presents a huge opportunity to have a positive impact on the regeneration of town centres across Kirklees and increase customer satisfaction levels and maximise income generation opportunities.

The markets service operates several indoor and outdoor markets across the district as well as several themed event markets. There are two major projects in development, namely Huddersfield Open Market and Dewsbury Market which is attracting investment more than £17m. The service is also experiencing a growth in demand for smaller local fresh food markets and the service wants to maximise this opportunity in the future.  

You will work closely with the Markets Manager to support the operational and day to day deliver of the service across the district as well as contributing to the new projects. You will support a review of the service to ensure it can meet the demands of the new markets. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities for improvement, developing improvement plans and implementing them. This will include but not exhaustive list -  

  • Devising strategies and business improvement plans to encourage visitors our markets.
  • Support the Markets Manager to develop an effective communications and marketing strategy to support the service in meeting its financial targets.
  • Work with local businesses to support opportunities for growth.
  • Creation and implementation of customer comment and feedback processes. Taking ownership of comments and turning them into actionable intelligence, enacting real change.
  • Continually review and asses the KPI's
  • Managing several premises across the district and the dispersed staff teams supporting this delivery.
  • Work with procurement teams to ensure compliance when procuring new contracts and equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal H&S policies and procedures, whilst ensuring broader compliance within the markets sector.
  • Work closely with traders to support business growth and broader internal council services
  • Flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the business
