The council’s Major Projects Service takes a lead role on major infrastructure delivery and transportation. The Council has identified the need to create a Transport Strategy and Policy Group to work on transport strategy and policy matters. As a result of this, the council’s Major Project Service is looking for talented people to join our ambitious, creative and highly collaborative team. We want project managers with a real interest in developing transport strategy and policy and who can help delivery our major transportation projects.

 

In this important role you will primarily contribute to work on the following areas:

 

  • Developing and helping to implement a new Transport Strategy
  • Support the delivery of major transport related projects, including active travel
  • Developing strategic and local road, rail, bus, walking and cycling initiatives
  • Support the Transpennine Route Upgrade process in Kirklees
  • Connectivity and Mass Transit
  • Strategic and local transport modelling work
  • Monitoring and data collection
  • Sustainable Transport initiatives
  • Integrated and smart travel
  • Preparation and submission of funding bids to help achieve the council’s ambitions
  • Support for other council functions needed transport strategy and policy input

 

Ideally the post holder will have some transport planning and/or highway/transport engineering experience. We would seek to appoint you at either Grade 12 or Grade 10 depending on your skills, qualifications and experience. The role will act as project / programme officer for one or more schemes to manage the diverse activities that contribute to the successful delivery of major projects/strategies and programmes and support the transport strategy and policy project managers and Policy Group Leader.

Good project management skills will be essential. Knowledge of transport strategy and policy work, as well as qualifications related to these, are desirable. Of key importance is the willingness and ability to support the Transport Strategy and Policy Group Leader to project manage the delivery of a transport strategy which will underpin a resilient transport infrastructure network that supports a thriving economy, where citizens have a good quality of life and business can take advantage.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is prepared to work flexibly, in a high profile and demanding environment, working to tight deadlines to achieve success for our programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong interpersonal, organisational and negotiation skills along with good programme and project management experience.

The role involves partnership working across the Leeds City Region and establishing professional relationships with partner organisations. Hence, applicants should have good communication, negotiation and networking skills.
