Through this we will be working to drive up living standards through better transport, improved skills and stronger businesses, while tackling the climate emergency

The Combined Authority brings together five districts plus York, the business community via Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and also takes in the former Passenger Transport Executive (branded Metro). Overall, the Combined Authority covers a population of around 2.5 million people and represents the largest economy outside London.

The role

Additional planning and housing growth resource is required to support districts with current limited capacity to bring forward extant planning permissions. The post will provide resource to research and improve intelligence across the region’s brownfield sites with planning in place for 38,000 new homes in West Yorkshire. The post will provide brokerage working with district colleagues to find solutions and help develop the tools required to bring forward development on brownfield sites.

We are looking to offer a one year secondment opportunity for 1 full time policy officer within our team covering planning coordination, housing, urban design, sustainability and place issues. You will work with our district partners and senior policy managers across a range of functional areas in the Strategy, Policy and Communications Directorate. With a devolution deal moving forward at pace, this role will contribute to support development of a strategic housing sites pipeline, and with a new Mayor to be elected in May 2021 this is an exciting time to be part of the Combined Authority.

The person

You will be educated to degree level with a planning or built environment professional qualification, ideally with knowledge of both development control and policy experience. The role requires experience in one or more aspects of planning, housing or built environment with the ability to contribute both at district and regional level supporting partners to bring forward brownfield development specifically. You will also have a willingness to work flexibly across our policy agenda within the Directorate.
