Kirklees Council Apprenticeships – building a future workforce.

Do you want to help shape future development in Kirklees?

If so, join our Planning Service and train to become a Chartered Town Planner.

We are recruiting graduates to join our established Level 7 Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship programme.

We want to make sure that Planning in Kirklees works for all and we are looking for talented graduates from diverse backgrounds to join us.

Alongside the qualification, you will experience working in a number of different teams in the Planning Service to gain a thorough understanding of how different aspects of planning relate to one another.

You will assist with the development and implementation of future planning policies and plans; deal with your own caseload of planning applications; and be involved in investigating potential breaches of planning legislation. This apprenticeship opportunity could also benefit someone who has/wishes to develop a specialist interest in the historic environment with potential for involvement in heritage related casework, with support from the Conservation, Design, Ecology and Trees team.

You will combine day-release study at Sheffield Hallam University with working on the job to gain knowledge, skills and experience.

During the Apprenticeship you will spend time collecting a portfolio of evidence and work on a number of projects. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor and work-based learning coach from Sheffield Hallam University, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to graduates with a qualification in Town Planning or a related subject (minimum 2:1).

You will also need 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C (Grade 4) including Maths and English and will need to meet the specific entry standard for Sheffield Hallam University.

You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to problem solve, attention to detail, creative thinking, good communication and the ability to be both a team player and work on your own.
