This job is internally restricted. To apply for this job you must be an employee of the Council for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date. The role is part of the overall Business Support Job Family, which is a key role in supporting our teams to deliver high quality services. You will contribute to the effective running of the Council with your first class and efficient administrative support skills, ensuring appropriate systems are developed, implemented, maintained and monitored to support the work of the team, manager and service.

The post in based within Planning, one of the most high profile and politically sensitive services in the Council. You will interact with a wide range of people, including the general public, planning agents, applicants, external organisations and Councillors.

Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills are essential, as is the ability to understand and interpret complex procedures and legislation. You will work closely with Planning Officers and other members of the team to ensure that all applications meet the relevant legal and procedural requirements.

The role requires somebody who is self-motivated, flexible and pro-active and who is able to juggle different areas of work. In addition you will need to be able to demonstrate a strong attention to detail and to be able to work in a thorough and consistent manner. Strong I.T. skills are essential as is a willingness to make a contribution to service improvement and development.

Requirements for this job: 

  • Provide a high quality professional, customer focused service with the ability to multi-task in a busy and variable office environment.
  • Appropriately deal with a variety of existing and potential customer information, including personal information, in a sensitive manner
  • Ability to work to and meet statutory and mutually agreed deadlines.
  • Ability to update and maintain accurate records
  • Process payments and follow Kirklees Council procedures with regards to accounting and finance
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the team to ensure effective service delivery
  • Ability to engage with customers, constructively managing barriers to ensure effective communication.
  • In addition it is essential that you have a robust IT background with the relevant skills, knowledge and confidence to reflect this. You will need to be competent with a variety of computer packages in particular APAS, Anite, the Microsoft Office suite and other council computer systems and that you are able to demonstrate business and administration skills to NVQ Level 3.
