Birkby Junior School is an ambitious, inclusive, multi-cultural five-form entry school. We would like to appoint an enthusiastic, conscientious, highly motivated and capable caretaker who will have a key role in the maintenance and development of our school. All of our school community is very proud of our school building and we want someone who will help us take care of it. We want our caretaker to be a big part of school life and fully involved in all aspects.

We are looking for someone with a good range of skills and school caretaking experience including building and grounds maintenance, general DIY, security and cleaning. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager to ensure that pupils, staff, governors and visitors are able to work in a welcoming, clean and safe environment.

 

Our ideal candidate will be:

  • a hardworking and reliable individual who will play a key part in maintaining and improving our school environment and who will have a sense of pride in their role and in our school
  • able to maintain high standards of workmanship within the school and be competent and confident in carrying out minor building maintenance work in an efficient and safe manner to a high standard
  • aware of health and safety requirements and be able to identify any health and safety risks and deal with them accordingly
  • able to work on their own initiative and be proactive
  • able to organise and prioritise work effectively

You will need to:

  • have practical experience that will enable you to fix and mend as required
  • be able to carry out a wide range of physical tasks that will include lifting and carrying, working at heights etc
  • be enthusiastic and helpful towards staff and children
  • be open to training that will enable you to fulfil the role

The successful candidate will also need to work flexibly to meet school’s needs as some evening and weekend work will be required.
