Following recent staffing changes, we have the opportunity for a Cover Supervisor to come and join our fantastic team at Southgate School.

We are a special school for pupils with complex needs (Key Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4). All pupils have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). Southgate School embraces diversity and we place great emphasis on our core values:

Relationships – Independence – Opportunity - Communication

At Southgate, we value all of our people; you will have the opportunity to be creative and make a real difference to the lives of our incredible young people. As a member of our large team, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills and we will support your progression and professional development.

By working at Southgate, you will be provided with:

  • An extensive and supportive induction programme
  • Ongoing and supportive performance management
  • Continuous professional development
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Career progression and development opportunities
  • Supportive and distributed leadership
  • Access to wider support and employee healthcare with a significant focus on wellbeing initiatives
  • Access to Kirklees Active Leisure membership

As a Cover Supervisor you will deliver learning under the supervision of the teacher to individuals and small groups of pupils. You will have the confidence to lead a class, take responsibility for behaviour and learning, and will be able to cover short term absences (pre-planned). You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills by working flexibility across the classes to support the needs of the school.

There are three pathways in our school that enable us to tailor our provision and curriculum to meet the needs of a range of SEND. We will be able to match the skill sets and interests of the successful candidate.

Orchard: For pupils who have been identified as benefiting from a more formal learning approach. This includes our Satellite Classes at Newsome Academy.

Forest: For pupils who require a greater focus on communication and interaction, with a higher emphasis on play/ life skills. There is a growing number of pupils following an engagement offer.

Woodland: For pupils with higher levels of anxiety who need an even more personalised and flexible approach. Their primary need is usually around their social, emotional and mental health.

Below are some of the comments from our staff following our recent wellbeing survey:

“I have recently been challenged both mentally and emotionally within my work role. I can honestly say I have been totally supported by my line manager, a highly valued teacher and SLT”.

“I think the structure of line management is really supportive and enables staff to feel comfortable sharing their opinions more freely”.

“Excellent support from line management and SLT with my own mental health. I would like to say a big thank you to all”.

“I believe the school takes the wellbeing of staff seriously and offers a high level of support. I feel supported by my line manager and colleagues”.
