Your main responsibility will be to drive vehicles up to and including 7.5 tonnes in compliance with legal obligations and expectations for driver behaviour.  You will have full and up to date CPC certificates.

You will work on your own and as part of a team performing other cleansing duties collecting refuse from households, manual sweepers, attending public bins , reporting fly tips, collecting dead animals and attending sites as required to clean up tipped rubbish which can have infestation.  

You will drive mechanical sweepers as required to support other cleaning services in their daily duties, work with the team of other cleaners ensuring town centres and outer areas are clean. Start times can vary depending on the needs of the business and requirements of the jobs, e.g., occasional early starts, prior to rush hour, in order to have the town centre cleaned if required.  You may need to engage in public events, supporting them by working in a team helping to manage and control waste.

In all duties the job holder must comply with expected standards for performance and health and safety. 

Requirements for the job:

  • Holds a valid licence class C1 and have valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC) to be able drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to complete driving records, timesheets and accident records
  • Ability to defuse conflict situations appropriately
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout all seasons
  • Prepared to undertake work patterns which require flexibility and to work on some public holidays, early morning start times prior to rush hour as and when required
  • Able to make collections of dead animals in various stages of decomposition
  • Able to safely collect syringes and hypodermic needles from site when necessary
  • Work with enforcement and waste advisers to manage fly tipping as and when required
