Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of Barnardo's.

Introduction

Young Carers are children and young people who have a caring responsibility for a family member, often a parent but sometimes a sibling, affected by physical or mental illness or substance use. Young carers take on the practical and emotional responsibilities usually taken on by an adult or paid carer.

History of Service

KYC has been delivering support to young carers across Kirklees for almost 4 years so is a well-established service. The service provides assessed support to young carers and their families using a whole family, outcomes-based approach.  We require a Young Carers Support worker to carry a case load providing assessed support to young carers and their families. You will take a lead on an aspect of service delivery and development as well as representing the service at inter agency events, sometimes providing training. The role will require high standards of case-file recording, adherence to clear casework processes and timescales , group work co-ordination and delivery, the maintaining of a range of professional relationships across Early Support, Children's and Adult's services as well as other tasks commensurate with the role.

Kirklees Young Carers Service provides assessed support to young carers (and young adult carers)  and their families in Kirklees, to reduce inappropriate caring roles, improve emotional, social and educational outcomes, reduce the negative impact of caring and increase family resilience. The service also works to raise awareness in schools across the authority and support them in identifying young carers within their own settings.

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated person to join a small team to undertake all aspects of the young carer practitioner role.

This will involve:

  • assessing the needs of young carers and their families,
  • planning and delivering 1:1 support to young carers and fully involving them in this process
  • contributing to Early Help or statutory multi-agency support plans
  • adopting  a ‘whole family' approach
  • liaising with external agencies as necessary

You will also be expected to co-ordinate and deliver targeted group sessions to promote resilience and emotional wellbeing and support holiday activities and other events as required.

You will be required to work some evenings and occasional weekends to support groups.  This is an extremely busy service and high levels of initiative are required.  We work across the whole authority area so driving is an essential part of the role.

Although this contract has a permanent status, please be aware that this post is subject to funding currently to 30 September 2021 and therefore should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement.
