Would you like to work in a role that enables people with a learning disability, to support them to live in a way and a place that matters to them and to be able to see the difference that your input has made?

Kirklees Council Social Care Occupational Therapists provide a wide range of interventions for individuals within the geographical boundaries of Kirklees, and we are currently recruiting to a Learning Disability OT post.

We welcome new staff members, who are motivated and innovative and who can contribute to service developments to further increase the role and profile of OTs within the organisation and place-based system.

We welcome newly qualified practitioners and will support you through your preceptorship year.

Our emphasis is to use a wide range of Occupational Therapist core skills to develop individual’s resilience through personalised solutions to maintain or improve client’s health and wellbeing, maximise their independence, choice and control.

We enable people and their carers to live their life in a way that matters to them, to participate in their communities and safeguard them from significant harm.

We want practitioners who can be innovative and creative in the way that they work to deliver these services for our local population, thinking “outside of the box” to provide person-centred solutions.

You will be part of the friendly and supportive Occupational Therapist team working closely with other health and social care practitioners, sharing knowledge, skills and competencies across traditional professional boundaries. We support an integrated and innovative model of practice.

A key emphasis is placed on early intervention and prevention, identifying and facilitating enabling goals to help people to develop and sustain their capacities for independent living, or to help them to thrive in supported living or other residential environments. You will be supported by our Community Enablement Team in this.

Kirklees Council are committed to supporting you to keep up to date with changes in practice, legislation and guidance and to ensure that your continuous professional development is maintained. As part of this role you will also have the opportunity to participate in wider service developments to review what we offer to our local population.

This is a community based post, working with clients in their own home or other community settings, so travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to undertake the role effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence, and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car.

Our offer to you:

  • Salary is equivalent to AfC band 5 and 6 pay progression
  • 37 hour working week
  • Friendly and supportive team environment
  • Flexible working arrangements – a hybrid model of office and home working
  • Career development and training
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Kirklees Council honours previous continuous service with the NHS
