THIS ROLE IS INTERNALLY RESTRICTED

  • Be an employee of Kirklees Council.
  • Be employed by Kirklees for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date.
  • Have successfully completed your probationary period.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Early Support Service which is made up of the following Teams: Family Support, Mental Health in Families, Family Group Conferencing, Parenting, Communities, Youth, Outdoor Learning, Play, School Transition & Reach Service, Early Support and Inclusion (Disabled Children), Early Year’s Outcomes Team and, the Connected Persons Support Team.

Early Support services work within a Families Together model which is an integrated early support model that brings together diverse services across all sectors to provide a joined up, whole family approach to supporting children and families when, where, and how they need that support.

The Role

As a Family Support Worker within the Connected Persons Support Team, you will support Kinship Carers and review the Special Guardian Support Plans to assess the needs, risks and strengths of children, young people, and their Carers within their kinship placement. You will support the delivery in line with the aims and objectives of the Early Support Service.

You will use a multi-disciplinary agency approach and restorative practice to deliver co-ordinated support and have an understanding of other agencies and charitable organisations that support Kinship Care.

The role will involve working professionally and creatively with all family members, engaging effectively with children, young people, and their families from a variety of different backgrounds; applications would therefore be welcomed from applicants who speak additional languages. You will work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

You will need to be able to engage families who have multiple complex needs, and who may at times need encouragement to accept support. This will require a knowledge of Therapeutic Interventions that support families who have experienced childhood trauma. The ability to facilitate support groups and deliver training in order to engage Carers, children and young people and support the facilitation of Family Time together with an understanding of the complexities that may arise within a Kinship situation would be beneficial.

You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding in practice and understanding of safeguarding procedures.

A level 4 qualification in working with families or the equivalent would be advantageous, but not essential.

This is what two Kinship Carers said about the support from our Team:

“I just want to say a huge thank you for sending a Family Support Worker to see us and your continued support. It has been a challenging time for our family, and I know we would not have made it through without the support of your team.”

“This support group has helped immensely in that I have gained friends who understand the struggles I face on a daily basis. There have been numerous information sessions that have been extremely useful and informative. The life story work completed was very thorough, but at the same time was done very sensitively. The team is very passionate in supporting us and trying to make sure we are getting help as necessary in order to effectively manage our day-to-day struggles.”
