Kirklees Legal Services is one of the largest legal practices in the area and carries out legal work required by the Council. The Service is responsible for ensuring that the Council operates efficiently within the Law, meets its statutory responsibilities effectively and uses its legal powers to carry our the policies decided by the Councillors to meet the needs of the people of Kirklees.

The Children’s Services and Social Care Team is one of three specialist legal teams within Legal Services. The team provides advice and advocacy services to internal clients in the fields of Children and Safeguarding and Specialist Provision, and Vulnerable Adults which includes the fields of Mental Health, Community Care and dealing with mentally incapacitated individuals. The team is a large and busy team that employs 13 Senior Legal Officers and a number of Legal Assistants and administrative support staff.

The achievement of high standards is a priority for all in the Council and Legal Services has a crucial part to play, working with every part of the organisation towards our vision and key objectives to make a difference to the people of Kirklees.

You should have relevant experience in a legal office dealing with childcare work or prosecutions in the Magistrates Court, or other legal work at a similar level. Knowledge of legal procedures relating to childcare or family proceedings is also essential as is English to GCSE level or the ability to demonstrate equivalent competencies.
