It is an exciting time within the Culture & Tourism service at Kirklees Council. We are entering into the next stage of development and delivery of our ambitious plans across Museums & Galleries, Markets and the Creative Development Team. These plans include significant capital plans including the Cultural Heart, bid to the Levelling Up Fund for the new Huddersfield Market and Dewsbury Market. Across the service, we are also in the final phase of the development of three new strategies - Heritage, Tourism and Culture – and then we will move into delivery. The Culture & Tourism service also leads on the district’s two major place-based cultural programmes founded on the district’s cultural DNA of textiles and music – WOVEN in Kirklees and Year of Music 2023. We also have UNESCO creative status ambitions that builds on the place-based approach.

These programmes are built on the award-winning and nationally recognised day to day delivery, collections, projects, and sites such as Oakwell Hall and Country Park, Bagshaw Museum, Tolson Museum and Huddersfield Art Gallery which is currently located within Temporary Contemporary, a collaborative meanwhile space project with the school of Arts and Humanities, University of Huddersfield. The Markets service, in addition to the daily markets, also runs speciality markets and is supporting communities and businesses to run markets within the smaller towns across Kirklees.

As Business Development & Resourcing Officer you will work across the Culture & Tourism Service and with colleagues and teams across the Council to support, develop, instigate, and, where appropriate, lead on opportunities for development for funding and awards.

Over the past 12 months, the Culture & Tourism service has secured around £2m for culture in Kirklees from regional and national bodies, agencies and trusts and foundations. This is a significant foundation that we will be building on through the creation of this new post for the service. This two and a half year post itself is funded via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Gainshare Capacity Fund. We aim to build on this work, through building a better data, intelligence, and insights base for effective fundraising as a service, with partners and for the benefit of the residents of Kirklees.

This role is focused on making the most of external opportunities that enable delivery on our shared outcomes.

Deborah Marsland is the manager for this role, please contact them on 01484 221000 for an informal discussion, or if you need any more information.
