Learning and Early Support – Children and Families

Various posts available including permanent and fixed term until March 2021

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Early Support team whose services are made up of Family Support, Family Mental Health, Family Group Conferencing, Parenting Team, Community Hubs (schools), and Youth services.

Early support work with a “whole family” approach as defined by the Kirklees Stronger Families. This approach means helping parents/families secure better outcomes for their children through more effective and better co-ordinated interventions from a wide range of services.

As a Family Support Worker you will be expected to support and assess the needs, risks and strengths of children, young people and their families. You will support the delivery of the aims and objectives of the Early Support team for young people and Families across Kirklees.

You will use a multi-disciplinary agency approach and restorative practice to deliver co-ordinated support.

The role will involve working professionally and creatively with all family members. Engaging effectively with children, young people and their families and responding promptly when needed.. The ability to work flexibly to manage the needs of children and their families together with the needs of the service is a must. You will need to respond promptly to need in times of crisis to prevent potential family breakdown.

You will have the ability to engage effectively with disabled children, young people and their families who can be challenging, show disguised compliance, demonstrate risky behaviours and who may be difficult to engage or accepting of services.

A level 4 qualification in working with families or the equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential as you will need to evidence substantial experience of working with vulnerable families from diverse backgrounds to deliver improved outcomes.

You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.

Our offer to you

  • An attractive salary, pension scheme and generous annual leave.
  • A comprehensive induction, ongoing supervision and training to support your personal development.
  • Flexible, mobile and agile working and a range of family friendly policies.
  • The opportunity to join a dynamic, supportive team where your ideas are valued, and you can be instrumental in changing lives for the better, improving outcomes for children and the development and success of Children’s Services in Kirklees.
