Internal audit is an important part of the councils assurance process, to help it ensure that the council achieves its objectives in a way that it is compliant, economic, efficient and effective. Internal audit will need to be able to assist the organisation in meeting the many challenges it faces in the next few years. The council also provides internal audit services within community schools, and for a small number of other organisations.

We are seeking someone to replace a manager who has recently left , who will both carry out audit assignments and direct a team of audit staff who carry out audit work. This role also involves leadership of activity relate to countering fraud, bribery and corruption. The manager will develop and monitor the internal audit plan, prepare audit briefs, and discuss audit work with clients, both at operational and management level, including attendance at various Audit Committees.

The work involves office base and home working, plus meetings with clients at various locations.

The post holder will ensure that internal audit work is carried out compliant with Public Sector Internal Audit Standards, and will need to have experience in delivering audit work, and staff management. They will be a qualified accountant, or full member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
