Do you want to be an engineer who makes a difference?

Bring your bridge engineering and management skills to Kirklees and help us to improve the road network in this beautiful and diverse part of Yorkshire.

The bridges team looks after highway bridges and structures in Kirklees, ranging from inspections and maintenance, through to major refurbishment and reconstruction schemes.

We work with a wide range of professionals and engineers from other disciplines, including contractors, consultants, and other council departments and external organisations, as well as the public and locally-elected Councillors. Your engineering skills, attention to detail and ability to take the initiative will be key to your success with us.

This role includes every aspect of highways structures management: condition data collection and processing, decision-making, design, procurement, liaison, and programme management.

Depending on your skills and experience, the next twelve months will see you involved in our key programmes of structural inspections, assessments, refurbishment and strengthening schemes, as well as working with developers and other partners on new and improved infrastructure projects. You will primarily be responsible for your own areas of work and also have some responsibility for supervising other members of the team. Your workload will be tailored to build upon your existing knowledge.

What can we offer?

  • A permanent full-time contract, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Friendly and supportive team environment
  • Ongoing training and career development
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • A range of family friendly policies, including flexible working and some working from home
  • We offer a wide range of well-being initiatives including a cycle to work scheme and discounted KAL membership
