Job 1 – Substantive

Job 2 – Temporary for up to 12 months due to extra workload

These jobs are internally restricted. To apply you must be an employee of the Council for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Learning and Development Team in the Welfare and Exchequer Service. The team plays a key role in training and developing staff to ensure they have the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver our services to the community.

You will design and deliver training programmes to staff within the service and in other Council services. You will work closely with colleagues on a range of activities and projects, sharing your knowledge and experience, and having a real input into how the service operates. You will need to be able to interpret complex legislation and present it in a way that is accessible to all.

You will need to quickly build up in-depth knowledge of the work undertaken within the Welfare and Exchequer Service:

  • Council Tax
  • Business Rates
  • Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction schemes
  • Means Tested Benefits (e.g. Blue Badge Scheme, Discretionary Travel, Local Welfare Provision, Free School Meals)
  • Financial assessments for Adult Social Care
  • Income collection – Housing Benefit Overpayments, Sundry Debtors

You will play a key role in developing the workforce within the service and will support the senior management team. You will mentor the apprentices based in the service and support their future development needs.

You will need to be resilient and able to deliver challenging programmes which help shape the culture of the service and organisation
