If you want to volunteer, have fun and make a difference to a young person's life, become an independent visitor for our Kirklees looked after children.

An independent visitor is a volunteer who befriends and visits a child or young person, up to the age of 18, living in the care of the council such as in a residential unit or foster care.

We ask that you can give a young person a few hours per month for a minimum of 12 months. This is because you will play an important part in the young person's social, emotional and educational development.

Activities can involve anything from football in the park, seeing the latest films or bowling. Hopefully you will have some similar hobbies and interests and you may be able to plan together how you spend your time. Budget and travel expenses are provided each month.

To find out more - and to see 6 reasons why you should become an Independent Visitor - please visit the Communities and Volunteering Website.

For further information you can also email us at fostering@kirklees.gov.uk

All volunteers will be expected to undergo an enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) and provide at least two references.
