Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

An opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Contract Management Assistant. This role would suit someone looking for their first career step into a Procurement Department. We would support you while you undertake a ‘Commercial Procurement & Supply’ Level 4 apprenticeship. They are a great way to gain recognised industry qualifications and earn a salary at the same time. Typically, you will be required to attend training at college for block placements spread over two years, apprenticeships are for all ages.

Alternatively, you may have recently completed a L4 Diploma in Procurement & Supply with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) which is part way towards the full CIPS professional qualification and be looking to gain more experience.

It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement that a £1.8bn devolution deal has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.

The role

Can you recognise a good deal? Would you like to build a career as commercial professional? If so, this could be the opportunity for you. Reporting into the Procurement and Contracts Manager, the key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Running and supporting tender and quotation processes.
  • Supporting teams by resolving queries, carrying out price evaluations, providing advice and guidance.
  • Providing administrative support by maintaining the supplier and contract registers.

You will have the following key skills, attributes and experience:

  • A professional, consistent and friendly attitude with great communication skills.
  • Be proactive and will be able to use initiative to work independently.
  • Be able to demonstrate aptitude for commercial work and negotiation.
  • A hard-working and enthusiastic team player.
